Re: Nomination for Secretary; ABA, Family Law Section
I believe I saw that nominations are now being accepted for Officer positions for the fall. While I could re-draft my informal application from last year, I have just re-read it and believe it still sets forth exactly how I feel and why I would like to take on more of a leadership role. So, if it is okay with you, I will submit it again. If you would like more from me, just ask. I could go on and on but I really want to help and know I can do more as an Officer. Here is my informal, official application from last year (but read it as if I placed more emphasis on each word please).
Please consider this letter as my formal application or self-nomination for the position of Secretary of our section. I have fallen in love with our section and hope to be able to serve it in a bigger way as Secretary. Bar involvement has been an integral part of my soul as a lawyer. Serving the bar, especially the family law bar, has been the favorite part of my being an attorney. Since I first joined the Board of the Atlanta Bar, Family Law Section in 1992, then later becoming chair, then joining the Board of the Georgia Bar, Family Law Section (and becoming Editor of our State Bar publication, "The Family Law Review") and continuing through today, I love serving the family law bar. I believe I bring an enthusiasm and devotion which pushes the bar forward and I really hope to be given the opportunity to help you, Council and the entire section make a difference in our world. As you know, and as the notice requested I provide, I have been very active in our section, attending almost every conference and ABA annual meeting in the last nine or ten years (since the Miami Beach Lowe's Hotel program). I have missed two which I really regret, but have made every other meeting, in addition to CLE planning meetings, etc. I have also served for years as the liaison to the substance abuse committee (and in 2007 became Chair of this ABA Standing Committee) and the diversity committee as well serving as Chair for the Family Courts Committee and Long Range Planning and Vice-Chair of Trial Practice. In conjunction with these roles, I helped organize the Family Courts Symposium in Baltimore May, 2007 (and organized a Family Court tour at the summer ABA in Atlanta) and have served previously on the CLE committee.
I have attached my curriculum vitae (in WordPerfect and MSWord - not yet updated for 2007) which sets forth many of my bar activities and seminar presentations. I am more than happy to supplement this letter or to answer any questions the nominating committee may have. I will await your instructions or direction.
Sincerely,
Randall M. Kessler, Esq.
